Cedilla
What does Cedilla mean?
Definition
In typography, a cedilla (¸) is a diacritical mark used under the letter "c" in some languages such as French, Portuguese, and Turkish, to change its pronunciation from a "hard c" sound to a "soft c" sound (like "s"). In French, for example, the word "façade" with a cedilla under the "c" is pronounced as "fasaad", while "facade" without the cedilla is pronounced as "fakade". The cedilla is also used in other languages that have adopted the Latin alphabet, such as Albanian, Azeri, Kurdish, and others.
