Tilde

In typography, a tilde (~) is a diacritical mark used to indicate a change in pronunciation, tone, or stress of a letter or word. The tilde is most commonly used in Spanish to indicate a nasalized vowel sound, such as in the word "mañana" where the tilde over the "n" indicates a nasalized "a" sound. The tilde is also used in Portuguese to indicate a nasalization of vowels and in some other languages to indicate a change in tone or stress. Additionally, the tilde is used in mathematics and computer science to represent various operations or functions.
